Snippets from the Metro

She sits silently all dolled up
Put together with a red lipstick
A dress that has seen better days
And feet shod on uneven high heels

The usual chatter thankfully missing
But you can hear her mind grinding
Incomprehensible and lonely memories
And you pray for her to talk

He sits sullenly across the metro
You wonder for all the sunshine filtering
It seems he can't see and feel it vibrate
And at last forget his troubles and smile

FiftEen maybe sixteen you see
Too early for the shadows to come out
Yet time seems meaningless here
And the sounds drowned by what's inside

He shuffles slowly along the metro
And stands quietly aside on legs shaking
Proudly he hangs on the rails
Nobody notices no one seems to care

The click of the camera from steady hands
She smiles at the sun and closes her eyes
For a while she's still but the outside calls
And she snaps, off in her own mind
